Where to Stay Before the Trip
Texas River Music Fall 2019 will assemble at 8:00 am on the morning of departure near Historic Terlingua Ghost Town, behind the Terlingua Store, home of the world famous Terlingua Chili Cook Off. We hope everyone will check in with us in person the afternoon/evening prior. On site camping is available at this location at no charge to Texas River Music guests. There are toilets but no showers.
The world has discovered Terlingua and Big Bend. When Far Flung began its unlikely trajectory in 1977, there was only the one local lodging facility at Villa de la Mina. Lajitas was under construction. Today is a different story. There are a variety of accommodations nearby, everything from standard road side motel options, to restored miner’s quarters, to vacation rentals of all descriptions. Base Camp Terlingua consists of tipis, but nothing like the Comanche ever used. They are sunk 4 feet into the ground, with cement floors, throw rugs, stucco walls, comfortable furnishings, coffee maker, wi-fi, and a great view. It is off the highway enough for peace and quiet, but close to restaurants and local night life. Close to River Music home base. Villa Terlingua is the lovely creation of Cynta de Narvaez, a former Far Flung Adventures guide. The dry stack rock masonry is something that is rarely seen any more, evoking the mining era from a century ago, but with a level of comfort and artistic sensibility that is also rare in these days of cookie cutter, assembly line travel options.
