TEXAS RIVER MUSIC with BUTCH HANCOCK

THREE DAYS no two songs alike BUTCH HANCOCK

Far Flung Adventures’ Texas River Music Series started in 1983 as three day rafting trips on the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park. Before too long, we were graced with the participation of legendary Texas singer song/write Butch Hancock.  Butch is a Texas original, having landed in Austin in the early 70’s along with fellow Lubbock natives Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Joe Ely as part of the Texas Flatlanders.

On October 25-27, 2019, Butch and his friends of the Rio Grande will launch on an unforgettable excursion down 21 miles of Rio Grande, culminating in the amazing Santa Elena Canyon.  1500 feet in depth at the mouth of the canyon, with vertical cliffs rising straight from water’s edge, we are eager to show you our “beautiful border wall”!

Like many unsuspecting visitors to Big Bend, Butch found himself drawn to the unparalleled beauty and mystery of the legendary Rio Grande. Butch couldn’t get enough it seems, he ultimately moved his base of operations to Terlingua, the center of the known universe (no longer located in Sedona Arizona)  Even that wasn’t enough, Butch trained with the professionals at Far Flung Adventures, Inc., and became a certified raft guide. Butch will row his own raft on this musical journey, and most of the stories he will share with his passengers are even true!

Cost for this trip is $800 per person, and includes everything you need except a personal sleeping bag.  Meals are fresh and delicious, accommodation can be made for any food preference or restriction. We will meet at the Terlingua Store at 9 am on Friday, October 25, then load into our vehicle to transport guests to the river’s edge in Lajitas. We encourage guests to meet us the afternoon/evening before for orientation and to pick up a waterproof duffel. Camping is available on site at no additional charge; we are happy to help arrange overnight accommodations nearby before and after the river trip.

We have decided to not enable on-line reservations as this is a very special and personal trip, and we want to make sure that everyone is fully informed about what it is all about. For further information and to book, call Mike Davidson/Go Big Bend at 432-386-5635, mike@gobigbend.com
